The director, Jeannot Painchaud, uses video projection and rotating walls to create a futuristic visual experience reminiscent of Fritz Lang’s legendary silent movie Metropolis.

A desire for freedom drives the acrobats and dancers to extremes of physical performance. They rise up against monotony and free themselves of the shackles of a technocratic city. The wheel of time starts to turn and, with it, the bodies of the artists – breathtaking dance with the Cyr wheel captivates the audience. Heaven is conquered on poles, from springboard and while juggling. As they dance fleet of foot, ultimately the world rests at theirs. Till the boundaries between reality and fantasy dissolve. An explosion of colours, pace, music and humour that leaves no room over for anonymity or solitude. If the impossible becomes possible then, in the absence of words, Cirkopolis has touched all our senses.

We are delighted to be able to present the Drama-Desk-Award-winning production “Cirkopolis” on the Helmut List Halle stage in 2016.
